| Steve Miller Artist Biography |
As a child Steve excelled at the arts, being accepted to an art school following submission of a drawing test when he was six years old. His interest in the arts continued through high school where he took art classes every quarter of every school year. By the time he was a senior Steve had already taken every form of art class available at his school so he was allowed to participate in an independent study program where he was responsible for creating his own assignments and seeing them through to completion. Following high school Steve was accepted to the Art Institute of Atlanta, however his financial situation required him to take on a full time job so he was unable to enroll. Although sidetracked, Steve’s love for the arts never subsided. It was in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, that Steve met an artist who gave him the touch of inspiration he needed. Ms. A.B. Pauwels had been retained on consignment in a bronze art gallery. She explained the process for creating bronze sculptures and Steve realized it required the same skills he had been honing the past eighteen years by sculpting damaged cars back to their original condition. He had been perfecting his metal working skills and sculpting with different mediums - composite plastics, fiberglass, polyesters, etc. Upon realizing this, things began to take on new meaning. To Steve life had come full circle back to his first love - art. The ideas for new sculptures came flooding in at an astounding rate, faster than he could create them. He began a list that would grow to several pages in length. When Steve set out to make his first sculpture things started happening...it was as if everything just fell into place. The feeling of peace and presence that came over him when he was sculpting confirmed he had finally found the very thing he was meant to do. Steve lives in Marietta, Georgia, with his wife and two sons and is a member of the South Cobb Arts Alliance, and The National Sculpture Society.
